Steve Thomas has over twenty-six years of residential mortgage experience and is Senior Managing Director of Mortgage Capital Markets at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago where his team is responsible for the bank’s mortgage-related loan and bond investment portfolio acquisitions and the FHLB System’s Mortgage Partnership Finance (MPF®) pricing, pipeline hedging and capital markets functions. Steve also recently served for four-years as Co-Director of the bank’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Co-Chair of the FHLB System’s OMWI Council- Capital Markets Supplier Diversity Subcommittee.

In the past, Mr. Thomas served as a Managing Director at CastleOak Securities, responsible for directing CastleOak’s Mortgage Finance Group, and as the Senior Vice President-Capital Markets and co- founder of American Mortgage Capital Group (“AMCG”), a $200mm mortgage hedge fund.

Earlier in his career Mr. Thomas held officer level roles in capital markets at Fannie Mae, Countrywide Home Loans and Hyperion Capital Management.

Mr. Thomas began his professional career by serving his country as a Naval Officer in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and is a 1992 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Economics and a minor in Japanese Studies. He has been very active in advancing diversity and inclusion nationally including service on the Executive Council which governs the American Mortgage Diversity Council and on the Steering Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Financial Services Pipeline initiative. Today, he serves as a Board member and Treasurer of Mercy Housing-Lakefront, a part of Mercy Housing which is the nation’s largest non-profit developer and owner of affordable housing.
