Supermom Turned Homeowner

Like many Americans, COVID-19 has made an impact in more ways than one. For Irene, a single mother living in NY, the first few months of the pandemic jilted her day-to-day life, forcing her to pivot and take leaps into the unknown. Looking to provide a comfortable environment for herself and her son in a home she could call her own, she was referred to the Quontic team to help make it happen. Loan Officer Michael Bocelli worked hard to get Irene the loan she needed, that aligned with her unique situation and credit scenario. Although the quarantine delayed her closing, Irene credits Quontic for keeping her on track to owning her home.

Fast forward, exactly one year later, Irene was pleasantly surprised to hear from Michael and his team, who checked in to see how she was fairing out. It just so happened that Irene was looking for a new career opportunity and Michael had just the place – Quontic! She came aboard the Bocelli & Melia team and is proud to help other families in the same way Quontic had helped her. Irene proudly shares her story of strength and triumph through adversity and shared this – “If someone was to ask me to describe in one word how Quontic has helped me – I can’t give just one word, Quontic saved me. Their loan programs are perfect for single mothers who are hustling and working and trying to make it happen for their families.”

An American Dream, Realized

Sabine, a Haitian born Brooklynite, always longed for her own home. As a hardworking mother of two, the American dream of homeownership always seemed to be just that, a dream. Growing tired of her one bedroom apartment and meek savings, she knew she wanted to have a place to call her own, she just didn’t know how to make it happen. That’s until she met Senior Community Development Loan Officer, Darrin English, and the Quontic team. Darrin, empathetic and understanding of her unique situation, helped her secure a $20,000 grant for first time homebuyers through a local non-profit and she jumped at the opportunity.
When it came to the financing process, Sabine credits the responsiveness of the Quontic team as her saving grace. “They’ve made me feel like I’ve known them for 20 years. They don’t want you to stress out about the process and are there for you every step of the way.”
Now that she’s comfortable in her Brooklyn home, Sabine reflects back on her journey with warm regards. “I became so close with them during this process, I wouldn’t hesitate to choose the Quontic team, time and time again.”

The Perfect
Recipe For
Homeownership

Amy, a Chinese American restaurateur from Queens, and her husband were looking for a small one family home in a good neighborhood to start their family. After searching near and far for the perfect home, she had the capital to buy a home, but was met with many obstacles and closed doors from other lenders. As a small business owner, her financial situation was unique, yet not uncommon. “Small business owners like myself, we definitely have the income, but it’s the paperwork that doesn’t match up.” Despite having the financial resources and good credit scores, other banks simply couldn’t help her with a loan. “I visited a bank branch and was given a list of documents that I couldn’t provide, including multiple year tax returns. Being in the restaurant industry, our income isn’t always that stable.” Frustrated and defeated, Amy turned to Steven Ho, and Quontic Bank.
Steven reassured her that a Community Development loan would be the “Yes!” she was looking for. “He worked with us to make sure we were eligible and he helped us get a loan with a pretty easy process.”
As a CDFI, Quontic is able to assess the whole financial profile, not just Amy’s tax returns or income documentation to qualify. Due to the bank’s unique standing, Amy was able to close on her dream home in Queens that suits the needs of her growing family that now includes two year old twins. However, her journey didn’t end there. Satisfactorily, she recommended her network of small business owners to take advantage of the great programs too.

An Entrepreneurial Spirit Yearning For His Dream Home

John, a self-starting business owner, had big dreams after leaving a top tech firm for his own LLC. After successfully launching his consulting business in his mid-50s, he wanted to capitalize on his profitable new career with a new home. Unfortunately, he found out the hard way about getting a mortgage while being self-employed. “No bank would touch me. I had a big contract at the time to cover my expenses, but they didn’t care because I didn’t have tax returns.” In comes Joseph Allen & the Quontic mortgage team with a unique mortgage solution to provide the relief he needed.
Joseph and his team worked hard to make the process as clear and easy to understand as possible. After the initial appointments and conversations, John gave Joseph the “good, bad, and ugly” of his financial scenario. Joseph reassured him that his past doesn’t dictate his future, and helped him get the loan to finance his dream home for his family. “I learned a valuable lesson that the banking industry isn’t necessarily friendly to entrepreneurs, that’s why it’s important to work with a team you can trust.”
